Maize Grain Germination Is Accompanied by Acidification of the Environment

چکیده

Seed germination is a complex process involving several stages, starting with the imbibition of water and ending emergence radicle. In current study, we address observation an unexpected pH shift during maize grains. We used direct measurements soak water, indicator methyl red, anatomical analysis to shed light on acidification associated (Zea mays L.) germination, largely overlooked phenomenon. Our work shows that grains two-step process: (i) early, rapid (pH values up 4.4), in which protons stored (dead) pericarp/testa are mobilised rapidly diffuse into surrounding medium, (ii) late, delayed just below 6), hours after contact representing active transport caused by living cells seed. discuss physiological mechanisms ecological relevance environmental grain germination.

Germination of conidia of Aspergillus niger is accompanied by major changes in RNA profiles

The transcriptome of conidia of Aspergillus niger was analysed during the first 8 h of germination. Dormant conidia started to grow isotropically two h after inoculation in liquid medium. Isotropic growth changed to polarised growth after 6 h, which coincided with one round of mitosis. Dormant conidia contained transcripts from 4 626 genes. The number of genes with transcripts decreased to 3 55...

Chloroplast Membrane Remodeling during Freezing Stress Is Accompanied by Cytoplasmic Acidification Activating SENSITIVE TO FREEZING2.

Low temperature is a seasonal abiotic stress that restricts native plant ranges and crop distributions. Two types of low-temperature stress can be distinguished: chilling and freezing. Much work has been done on the mechanisms by which chilling is sensed, but relatively little is known about how plants sense freezing. Recently, Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) SENSITIVE TO FREEZING2 (SFR2) wa...

Peroxidase activity in scutella of maize in association with anatomical changes during germination and grain storage

The embryo of the maize grain (Zea mays L.) is separated from the starchy endosperm by a fibrous structure, which is called the fibrous layer (FL). Using histochemical staining, it was determined that the FL is composed of collapsed cellular layers that contain phenols, neutral lipids, and 1,3-β-glucan. Due to its composition, the FL prevents free diffusion and separates the embryo from the end...
